How to Turn Data Into Music - Part 1
I'll show you how to convert any data into musical notes using simple python and a bit of music production. Create your first sonification project!
I'm Matt Russo, an astrophysicist, musician, and sonification specialist. You may have seen or heard my work with NASA or with my project SYSTEM Sounds. Our work has been featured in the New York Times and my TED Talk "What does the universe sound like" has been viewed almost 2 million times.
This tutorial shows you the basic process we used to create several of our sonification projects. Have fun creating your own and let me know how it goes. I'd love to hear it!
You'll need to know some basic python syntax and functionality but it should be accessible for people who are relatively new to programming and/or sonification.
This tutorial is FREE. You can also watch the video on Youtube and download the code on Github. There is also a web-based version of the code and an article on Medium.
By "purchasing" here you will get a discount code for 25% off part 2 of the series which goes beyond pitch and volume and shows you how to control almost any musical parameter with data. Purchasing Part 2 will also get you 25% off private consultations.
